This weekend is the 2013 Columbus Arts Festival in downtown Columbus. It’s a wonderful festival, so if you have a chance at all, I highly recommend that you take the time to drive downtown and check it out. It’ll be chock full of artists showing off their wares that range from pottery to paintings to clothing to metalwork to sculptures to who knows what else?!
I love that it’s going to be back downtown again right around the river, COSI and Bicentennial Park. Should be fun!
From the Columbus Arts Festival website, visitors can expect some really great things!
The Riverfront will be transformed into a stunning outdoor art gallery as the nation’s top artists display their work and attract art enthusiasts from all over the country. In addition to hosting more than 230 nationally acclaimed artists, the Festival will feature fantastic gourmet fare from some of the city’s finest local restaurants, live music, hands-on art activities and more—there’s something for everyone!
There’s plenty of parking downtown at places like the Rich Street lot, Columbus Commons, COSI and Vet’s Memorial. I’m planning on taking the bus down since there are lines that go right from Grandview to downtown. It’ll be my first time riding the bus here in Columbus, so I’ll have to let you know how it goes.
Here’s a great map of the festival (.pdf). On the eastern edge of the festival, on Rich Street right by Front street, is a section for Local Arts Groups. In addition to learning more about artists and the live bands playing, visitors will also have an opportunity to learn more about area arts organizations. My personal favorite, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, will be there throughout the festival talking about their Picnic at the Pops Series which starts next week as well as the wonderful upcoming Masterworks season that starts in the fall. If you haven’t yet seen them perform, what are you waiting for?
Entry to the festival is free, but everyone is encouraged to take advantage of all the wonderful food places located throughout the festival. (and of all the great art, too!) Sit down, have a nice meal and admire your new art while listening to some fun, live music.
So come on, Columbus! The weather promises to be great this weekend. It’ll be full of sunshine with only a very small chance of rain, so no excuses! Come on down and enjoy yourselves!
See you there!
